Fuch|sin [nlat. Fuchsia = Fuchsie (Bot.), nach dem dt. Botaniker L. Fuchs (1501–1566); ↑ -in (3)], das; -s; Syn.: Magenta, (internat. bevorzugt:) Rosanilin: grüngelb metallisch glänzende, in Wasser u. Ethanol mit roter Farbe lösliche Kristalle. Der Triarylmethanfarbstoff F. dient zum Färben histologischer Präparate u. zur Herst. des Schiff-Reagenzes (Fuchsin/Schwefligsäure).

Fuchsin
 
[zu Fuchsie] das, -s, Rosanilin, Magẹnta, nach dem Mauvein der zweitälteste (um 1860 hergestellte) synthetische Farbstoff, ein Triphenylmethanfarbstoff, der durch Oxidation eines Gemisches von Anilin sowie 2- und 4-Methylanilin gewonnen wird. Das brillant blaustichig rot färbende Fuchsin wurde früher zum Färben von Seide und Wolle verwendet, wird heute aber wegen seiner geringen Farbechtheit nur noch als Papierfarbstoff benutzt. Daneben dient Fuchsin als basischer Mikroskopierfarbstoff zur Anfärbung des Chromatins in den Zellkernen (Rotfärbung) und von Schleimstoffen (Violettfärbung).
